“ Wow! Didn't expect an udon restaurant in a mall would be this good!! Took it to-go and they did an excellent job packing so the tempura and noodles wouldn't be affected by the broth. Broth was loaded with umami flavor, noodles were perfectly made with a bit of tension/chew, thinly sliced meat were tender...can't wait to return! Cute little restaurant that's reminiscent of Japan, simple & clean, with excellent service (friendly and quick). ”

“ I'm definitely coming back here again! The food was delicious, the udon noodles were perfect texture chewy and not too hard. With the Nikutama, it came with egg that is runny yolk and meat with tempura flakes and green onion. The meat was thinly sliced and the flavor of the soup was great. The service was quick, which was great. There is indoor and outdoor seating, so this place was perfect when I was at the mall with my dog too. The outdoor seating was good and dog friendly. It looked bright and nicely arranged inside as well. For a popular place that has a line, it goes by quick so I'm coming back again! ”

“ Located at UTC, Marugame Udon still has a long line wrapped around outside. I have two locations back at home (the Bay Area), so I haven't waited for a bowl of udon here in awhile. Marugame is a consistent comfort restaurant for me because I enjoy a hot bowl of saucy udon, and I was still really looking forward to enjoying this meal with the wait outside. Nikutama: The most popular, and my go-to without any tempura or sides. They're generous with the toppings when you ask. It was good, a bit sweeter than my memory, but I cleared the bowl nonetheless and was SUPER full. Had a funny interaction with one of the staff and made the both of us laugh! Since it was so busy, we were a bit worried about finding a table as you grab your food first, but found one inside right away. There was also outdoor seating. Grab your own utensils, water, sauces. I think this location will be busy for awhile.. ”

“ Always packed, but always fast & amazing service. We love the Nikutama udon , and the tonkatsu udon. Both broth do flavorful, & love the house made udon noodles. Perfect chewy texture, so fun to watch them make it. We always order each a shrimp tempura & tamagoya egg tempura on the side. The gyudon is ok. My husband loves it, but I probably will like it better with the brown sauce on the side. The calamansi juice, & the matcha juice are both so good & refreshing too. It's a small little restaurant but with lots of tables & chairs. Like I mentioned, it's very packed even near closing time. But the staff are very efficient in making sure you get a seat right away. Too bad it's in the mall, but I'll always sacrifice a mall trip to eat here. Lol ”

“ So happy SD got Marugame! I've been waiting so long to try but didn't want to get caught in the long line. When I went around dinner time on a Monday, the line went by pretty fast! You order cafeteria style and can pick your own tempura! I got the beef dashi udon and sweet potato tempura. IT WAS SOOO GOOD!! The tables were all taken, so I'd recommend one person from your party find a table and the other order. ”

“ This might be one of my fav restaurants at UTC tbh... The udon noodle dishes here are such a classic and you really cannot go wrong with any choice. Everything here is so delicious! My favs are the curry sauce udon and the nikutama udon. Service is always so quick, and even if you come during a lunch or dinner rush, the line moves so quick. I love the tempura options they offer on the line, but the sweet potato tempura is consistently too dry and not the best. I always opt for tempura flakes and green onions on top, but wish the tempura flakes didn't get soggy so fast. Atmosphere is always bustling inside but the tables are soo close to each other it's a little uncomfortable :( Like you're almost always going to be elbow to elbow with another stranger next to you ”

“ Now, this is an interesting restaurant. I am not an udon expert but I know fresh and these noodles are crazy fresh. In fact, they are literally made in front of you as you stand in line. And, oh yes, you will stand in line. There will surely be a line. You select the bowl you want (I am probably super dense but the menu seemed a bit crowded and confusing to me) and then select any miscellaneous food you want (like tempura shrimp, gyoza, etc.). Yes, it's "cafeteria" style, where you select your food as you inch your way to the register but there aren't a million choices or anything. I went with the Curry Nikutama but I also sampled the (regular, non-curry) Nikutama and I preferred the non-curry one. The Curry one, as the name suggests, is noodles and other goodies on top of curry sauce. The non-curry one has a broth that was really flavorful and, in my opinion, more delicious than the curry sauce. I added a Gekikiara Fireball to my dish and, yes, it is pretty darn spicy, although I have no idea what it is made of. We also tried the gyoza and they were fine but nothing special. This is a crazy popular spot and the decor is pretty fun inside. Just like freshly-made pasta, these freshly-made noodles are outstanding and make this place well worth a visit. ”
